We have been rationalising costs and services to increase cost effectiveness for our members and ensure the ongoing financial viability of ARPCBI. We also are trying to avoid a situation where increasing inflation poses us growing and unacceptable costs. The change means cost savings and service system improvements. As we move on though, we do thank ABRI for many years of great service from 1979 until 2023. We also thank Keryn and Sharon and their team for their able assistance over the last years.

The registry is core business for the ARPCBI and the database itself will now be maintained by HerdLogic. This means members can manage their breeding programs supported by HerdLogic with built in performance recording capabilities, composite breeding performance data and more. Red Poll herd data will be accessible on your mobile device via an application called Livestocked, or on a computer via the web.

The management of data and secretariat support will be done by Genetic Hub based in Wagga Wagga, and we look forward to a great working relationship with them. Genetic Hub provide these services for a number of other beef breeds in Australia.

Change means there will be a bit of a learning curve for us all. Members, registrar and executive will benefit by spending some time becoming familiar with the new systems. We will help with this by making information and explanatory videos available. This is one step in our strategy to make ARPCBI the most innovative breed society in Australia. As we succeed, other breeds may chose to adopt our approach. If so this will give us further economy of scale. This would be a significant initiative for the beef cattle industry if other breeds see the benefits of a better approach and choose to participate.

The first President's and National Executive (NE) and member forum for 2023 was on last night. There was good atendance and exchange of ideas. There were 14 attendees (of 74) members which is a good start. The NE presented information on plans for 2023, costs of running ARPCBI, and the new website.  Members raised issues on a number of topics but it was clear that marketing and breed promotion are key issues for members. The NE has plans for one or two campaigns during 2023. At this stage they are pencilled in for April and September. In the first instance the NE, with the assistance of some skilled members,  will need to prepare material that can be used for promotion.

Other topics covered included the ARPCBI structure - is it still the right one for a modern breed society? (Members are encouraged to leave comments in the members forum on their views on the existing constitution.) Synchronising website and socal media activities, posting rights for official facebook pages, improvements to the members map, and the need for more data on animals and breed performance, were also raised.

We look forward to an ongoing exchange of idea via the website, social media and in person at later forums.

While we are excited to launch our new website, complete with member self service ability (the cattle componenet is yet to be done) we also have a new brand on the web:  redpoll.au

Less clumsy than longer domain names, this domain name means more to users and will prepare us for web 3.0 which is growing around us. We have also arranged for redirects so that web traffic to redpoll.com.au and redpoll.org.au gets sent to redpoll.au

We are arranging email for this domain. So we can have president@redpoll.au  and other such addresses for executives, staff and for stud members who want a highly releveant and prestigious email address. eg: myStud@redpoll.au at a modest cost.
